Genre

Genre is categorizing different films or a particular media text according to its style and context. Many people have a different taste to there particular type of 'genre'; whether is it horror or romance. Some genres e.g. comedy may do well than others. Sometimes that depends on the certain actors playing the role as they would have a larger fan base. As there are a variety of genres its gives people the opportunity to pick and choose more. It also makes it less boring as, if there was only a few it would limit the audience.  By having genres it prepares people for what they will watch. Each genre is completely different from another, they all have their unique touch to them which makes them likable to their certain audience. For example the genre horror has its thrilling music which engages the audience, and gives them goosebumps. The tone of music changes when certain danger is ahead or close by which gives the audience chills. Genres are so popular because all the types of genres entertains their certain audience and also makes life much easier for them as well as the film industry as, its in certain groups and categories, so its much more organised. It helps the film industry set its audience more efficiently. In process of this it helps the film industry target its audience as the film is set to entertain a certain group and as they make more and more types of that certain  film, there would be much more improvements and its audience would get bigger. Also personal likes and dislikes may change a view on a certain genre of a film, as some audience may not watch a certain type as it has a actor which they don't like, this then changes individuals likes in a certain genre. They may then move onto another type of genre as it has again a certain actor that they like to see in films. This then increases the popularity of that genre.

Genre helps a lot as it sets a type of film that will attract a type of age group e.g animation would mostly attract children. This then categorises gender and age groups, as woman may like romantic more and men may like sci-fi more. At the end it just merely depends on personal tastes. In addition to genre just helps cut things down more and gives a variety of different films for which the audience can choose from.

Action-

Elysium is a genre of action, contains a lot violence. Therefore would appease certain people and age groups, as younger age groups wouldn't be allowed to watch it and certain people do not like much violence and action.
The picture also illustrates how the film would be, the gun already shows this film has a lot of violence and the picture shows tension just by looking at it.

- Many people may watch mission impossible as it is famous for it sequels and the fact tom cruise stars in it, and he is known for the biggest actions and stunts. By the poster you can see it will be impactful and intense just the way they are posing.

- Another popular action film, also known for its pervious sequels and the fact Hugh Jackman also stars in it. The poster shows it will be very violent as his claws are coming out, the fact his topless may attract the female audience. Its very intense and dark, intrigues people to go and watch it.
