Mise-en-Scene

Mise-en-scene is what an audience can see on screen and these 5 Elements of Mise-en-Scene are:

• Setting and props 
• Costume, hair and makeup
• Facial expression and body language 
• Lightening and colour 
• Positioning of characters and objects in the frame

Colour-

Denotation: The literal description of an idea concept or object

Connotation: What we associate with a particular idea, concept or object 

Colour works on the subconscious mind to create a mood. For example red would be the particular wavelength of the electromagnetic spectrum. (This is the denotation)
However it could also symbolise anger, danger or romance etc. (This is the connotation)

An example of colour used is in Oz the great and powerful. The use of the saturation of the colour shows this world is very unrealistic. It conveys this world is the magical side. You wont see such overly used vibrant colour in a general film. It also catches the audiences eyes as its so bright and colourful.

Another example of colour is in Eyes Wide Shut. The use of the blue dominating symbolises that their marriage isn't at a good place. As it's almost cold like, its not a strong vibrant colour. The facial expression of Tom Cruise also emphasises this fact.
